Introduction
The Bible is God's manual for taking full advantage of the destiny and abundant life that God has for us. The Bible is not a religious book but the most reliable book on anything we need.
We make the most of our lives by lining up with the instructions of the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Some quick thoughts on the Bible from 2 Timothy:
-it is God-breathed, in other words, was inspired and written to us
-it is beneficial and advantageous for teaching and training
-it convicts and makes us aware of sin. It lets us know when we are on that dangerous path and how to get off.
-it brings correction, adjustment, and discipline that helps us to walk in obedience
-it opens to us the promises and life that God has for us
The Word of God brings us to a place where we:
-are complete and whole, so we lack nothing
-are skillful and capable in all areas of life
-are thoroughly equipped and capable right down to the last detail
-wise, instructed in principles that lead to blessing and success.
Remember, the Bible is a book of instructions to be applied. If you hear and do what it says, it will benefit you.
In Psalm 1, we find a Biblical Model for Success.
Psalm 1:1-6 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; its leaf will not wither, and whatever he does will prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly will perish.
There are Six Promises highlighted from this Psalm that come as a result of following what it says. They are you will:
-be blessed
-be like a tree planted by streams of water
-bring forth fruit
-not wither
-prosper in whatever we would do
-be watched over by God
Before we get to what we should do, we are warned of three things not to do.
First, we are not to First, walk in the counsel of the ungodly. In other words, we are not to walk or follow after the manner, the principles, the directions, and plans of those who are ungodly (immoral, wicked). We shouldn't take counsel from them as to how to live. Note: This not just meaning someone who is not a Christian but includes all individuals, even "Christians," who do not follow God's Word.
Secondly, we are not to stand in the path of sinners. We should stand clear of the lifestyle of those living deliberately in sin (living a lifestyle of sin). Don't stand in their path and follow along. Don't be involved in their lifestyle.
Thirdly, we are not to sit in the seat of the scornful. This includes those who disrespect and mock faith and trust in God. Those who ridicule faith. By the way, this is not only talking about those who are not saved. There are "saved" people who mock and even ridicule faith. These can be some of the most dangerous people to listen to because they will drag you down in your relationship with God and fill your life with doubt. You could also include in this group those who are negative, those who look to blame everyone else for their problems, those who mock and ridicule others. Be careful not to sit and listen to them.
Find and surround yourself with people who are going to challenge you and pull you up in your faith and thinking. Find and surround yourself with those who will hold you accountable, who will push you to be and live better.
So what are we to do?
Psalms 1:2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
The first thing that Psalms 1:2 said is that we are to delight and desire the Word of God.
This means we need to find happiness in the truth of God's Word. We should take delight in what God says, in His principles, instructions, and His teachings. These things should bring us pleasure, happiness, and satisfaction.
We should also desire God's Word, meaning that we should want to read, study, learn, and become intimately familiar with it. It should be something we think on and meditate on continually. There should be a craving to read and know more about what God says.
If we delight and desire God's Word, it will then become our standard for how we want to live our lives, nothing less will satisfy, we take joy and are happy to do as God's Word says.
God's Word should become a habitually, intentionally purposeful discipline in our lives.
Some Final Thoughts…
There is a promise of blessing, which includes prospering and success, as we abide (saturate, live in, consume, fill our lives with) in the Word of God.
The Word of God comes from the abundant thoughts of God for you and me. When you get into God's Word and think about it, God's Word gets in us, and that causes our mentality to expanded and enlarged to think and believe after the Kingdom of God.
PRACTICAL KEY – Success and Prosperity will seldom exceed your personal development. People who are not growing (themselves) can run after many things, can want to be fruitful, can wish to have success, and yet have little to show for it. Growth and development don't come naturally with age, and it is not something you accidentally stumble upon. You must desire it. You must plan it. You have to be intentional about it.
The Greatest Plan and the most important book for personal growth is the Word of God. The Word of God will not only cause you to grow, but it will also build you up (edify you) to reach a point where you can inherit all that God has promised you.
